要是留著你 / IF [I WAS] TO RETAIN YOU

要是留著你 / IF [I WAS] TO RETAIN YOU is an experimental documentary operating simultaneously across three screens. It follows two local Hong Kongers contemplating the possibility of leaving the city and a young Canadian returning from abroad. A collaboration between Vancouver and Hong Kong artists, the footage was filmed during the 20th anniversary of the 1997 “Handover.”

The work is a tone-poem exploring a stagnant time between the 2014 Umbrella Movement and the 2019 Pro-Democracy protests spurred by the now infamous “Extradition Bill.”

This experimental film can live in theatre, gallery exhibition spaces, and cinemas where the 3 screen format is available. In this way, we are seeking presentation opportunities both in the performing arts, visual arts, and new media arts contexts.
