maybe, whisper

In the process of writing this piece, I asked the performers (a husband and wife) to send me a letter describing themselves and each other, without showing one another. The text material comes from their letters. The musical material is also influenced by these letters.

In addition to this, I asked each performer to send me a small musical phrase. The pitch materials in those phrases are used through-out the piece and many of them have been distorted through piano preparation.

This piece is written for Illya and Katha. It hopes to embody the frenetic energy and excitement of two people meeting for the first time and the calm that follows.
